Last lap before finish line ?

 Indeed, PHP 8.2 RC6 had been released this week, luckily there should not be a 7th. Speaking of 7, here as usual the summary of PHP activity in term of RFC and commits ; to be noted the handy new json_validate which could replace any json_decode call if and only the goal was to check its proper form.

Apart of this Yamagi Quake2 is aiming for the next release, on my part for first time adding couple of new video menu entries. In a smaller scale, I continue to bring a bit of novelty in the openspades game as well. Beyond that, as mentioned in a previous post, rust is gaining more traction, it s even more motivating to go on with the libc crate among other things.

Welcome autumn

As expected, I came to the EuroBSDCon 2017 in Paris, there is no regrets in my side, will do it again if I have the opportunity following years. Indeed, speaking about opportunities, it was the chance to see face to face people just to say I have not forgotten what you did for me a while ago so thank you, ... met Ted Unangst, Theo de Raadt (he does not bite I promise ;-)), Marc Espie, Landy Breuil, Ed Maste, Michael Lucas (besides his wide knowsledge, he is a genuine funny individual) ... just to name few of them ;-) Also obviously, attending very interesting speeches (I tried to share between FreeBSD and OpenBSD ones as possible). The organisers did a great job (I admit now, sorry for that :-), I feigned ignorance, pretending I  lost my way to the hotel on our way back from the boat party ... just to see ... and they did very good ;-)) to the point talks were released in not much days after the end (what an end it was, ...) which you can find here if you are ever interested.

After that, back to small hacking as usual since OpenBSD switched to clang (now it is the 5 version after the source tree was unlocked from 6.2), contributed back to LMMS, the usual various doom client engines (even Russian doom, fork of chocolate doom, cherry picked up few of my commits :-)), open tomb, open spades, yquake2, a pending contribution for dustracing2d (in review by the main maintainer) ...

About Dublin BSD Meetup, it will be the first about OpenBSD, and will happens, normally, the 26th. It should be friendly but "knowledge giver" as always.

And, ..., following up the EuroBSDCon, I got interviewed by ... BSDNow :-) having watched the show for years and being in the other side of the mirror, that was quite an experience :-)

FreeBSD talks and the rest ...

Last week, we did a Dtrace session as Dublin BSD meetup. Was again quite interesting, lot of exchanges and side discussions. Since we mentioned dtrace, it is hard to forget the other well known feature, so ZFS. Knowing Anton and his taste of going through real time demos and real use cases, it will be not less interesting for sure. For the autumn, I have some ideas to vary a bit we will see in due time :-) Before that, I have to show up in few places to meet other BSD folks during the summer :-)

As usual, few contributions of mine, some projects starting with open :-) like openage, openrct2 (here it is just an update), opentoonz which I plan to port to *BSD in general (nearly complete just fix some linkage issue with *blas libraries). Also, fixed one of the doom client engine, doomretro, especially the Mac OS part, tested at least dozen of times the first level of Doom II :-)
Couple of small build fixes here, there or this one  ... brought a bit of arc4random's spirit into libbson recently as well, which is used by mongodb based projects. There are other few submissions still on review and so on we will see :-)

Meanwhile, have a great beginning of summer especially outside of the continuously rainy Ireland ;-)
